First Day ‘Get to Know You’ Activity for Any Class

I want to talk everyone about what you’re going to do the first day of school.

One of the things that I work hard on is getting to know my students. So in our All Things Google class that I’m now offering, I’m going to drop this template. Anyone that joins today can have it and use it. It’s 100% editable.

And what I’ve done is create a Google slide deck that your students can learn how to use Google and it’s a get to know you. What you’re going to do first is assign each student a number. So I also make this their Chromebook number, and their calculator number. I’m going to be student three and it’s already linked for you.

The instructions for your students are that they only go to their numbered side. So if this is my slide, I’m actually going to type my name and then what I can do is I can also do is use the camera tool on my Chromebook and take a quick selfie.

You can adjust these questions for your varied grade level. I teach high school math, so my questions are geared for high school, but you can go in and edit these and then I ask my students to give me one interesting fact that I don’t know about them already.

When you finish with this, what you have is you have a complete ‘get to know you activity’ that you can play on your display or your Permethian board or SmartBoard. It gives you the opportunity to look at your students’ names and faces. So I use this for a couple of days. I’m on the teacher side so that I can recognize my students.
